Wow. wow wow wow. square wave issue solved and it was NOT what I expected. like, at all. A fleck of solder had bridged my PWM pin to a neighboring pin that was driven low in my CircuitPython setup (but crucially, NOT in my Arduino test case). I spent a whole afternoon on this. 🤦🏽‍♂️
