Sensor ring update: my plan for “smooshing” the main board and programming board together didn’t work, but a few singed wires later, it blinks! I think this might be the tiniest #CircuitPython board yet. Now just waiting on the flex PCB for sensors + tiny batteries from Shenzhen.

board 1/4: assembled. board 2/4: smol. srsly, it’s SOOO tiny. like, here it is chilling on top of a quarter. lot of firsts in this project: first 4-layer board; first use of 0603 components; and tomorrow (hopefully) first flex PCB, when boards 3 and 4 arrive.

especially because there is precisely zero chance they’re actually going to win this race. literally the only thing gained from running is attention, which I assume one can parlay into a job spouting racist nutjob things on FOX News/AM radio/the clearance bin at Barnes and Noble.

reminder: by holding a campaign event on the White House grounds today, more or less everyone involved just violated the Hatch Act. Again. Not nearly the most horrifying thing about this situation, but nevertheless something important to point out. This is not normal.

On the plus side I did find a data sheet for the EPD controller; it looks like it supports SPI & has an on-board booster, which makes it similar to the kind of controller the Open Book’s screen uses. But that’s not enough to go on without more information. http://www.e-paper-display.com/SSD1677Specification.pdf

It’s really tough to tell from that listing. The photos and video depict three different displays with different connectors; there’s also no mention of the number of pins on the connector or its pinout, or specs on refresh time (tho the video looks pretty slow for page flipping).

I’m afraid that link won’t load for me! I will say I’ve tested with 5.83" and 7.5" SPI displays and they’ve worked, but the PCB isn’t ideally sized for them. I’d also want to check specs for refresh speed and partial refresh; in the end it’s a balance of price, size and features.

There are still some, to be sure; but all told, yesterday at least, I easily saw more Black Lives Matter, Biden/Harris and Antonio Delgado signs than Trump/Pence signs, which is extremely unusual for that area these last few years.
(original)
anecdotal, but: last couple of weeks I’ve been driving around the Catskills and Hudson Valley, and I’ve noticed a shockingly low number of Trump flags compared to last year. Even at houses with giant displays, “Support our Troops,” “Don’t Tread On Me”: the Trump signs are absent.

I don’t think either of us should feel guilty, and I agree with your other tweet: we need to cut ourselves some slack. Part of my brain knows this, but another part gets frustrated at the lack of progress. There’s a healthy balance somewhere in there I hope all of us can find :)
