haha honestly I’m about to go shred it. it feels like a weirdly radioactive thing to have around.

they really shouldn’t have released this photo; now I have a new cover sheet for all my important documents. (unless someone chimes in to tell me that merely printing one of these was a federal crime)

In a very real sense, that Rube Goldberg machine is me.

I don’t know how I missed the @hackadayio project for this, but meet the UV Sensor Board by @tahnok — the first third-party sensor add-on for Sensor Watch! https://hackaday.io/project/187321-sensorwatch-uv-sensor

I have not! I wish I could film inside the machine as it does its thing; still I think I’ll wait until I’m done folding everything before I take it apart 😬

I had been putting a piece of scrap paper on top just in case the first one didn’t fold precisely, but after a few runs I realized it wasn’t necessary; they all fold fine as long as I don’t overload the feed tray.
(original)
folks asked for a longer video of the folding machine, and while it isn’t much longer, it is still very satisfying. (I’m running batches of 50 just to be on the safe side; I’m low on toner and don’t want to have to print more if there are jams)

I feel so privileged to be able to ship a product like Sensor Watch at some scale. Each of these sheets of paper represents one person getting a device. And this is just 1/4 of what’ll eventually go out. This product will launch to a decent sized community, and it’ll happen fast.

Wait that’s the right data, wrong description: back stop is the first fold which folds it in half, then front stop folds the halved paper in half (second fold)
(original)
Replying to @twilliability
also because Twitter threads are where future-Joey goes to figure out what past-Joey was up to: for a double fold of letter size paper sideways, the front stop (1st fold) is 2⅛" and the back stop (2nd fold) is 4¼". 8½÷4 and 8½÷2, basically measuring how far from the top to fold.
(original)
Replying to @twilliability
Yep, they’re three to a page on 8.5×11" paper and cut down, so 8½×3⅔. This also means I had to do my own math to set the folding stops; it has presets for the different folds at 11" (letter) and 14" (legal), but they didn’t anticipate folks folding letter-sized paper sideways :)

Technically it’s ~2700 inserts; I’m counting the fact that half of them have one fold, and the other half have two. Still even 25¢ a fold feels like a good enough deal, because realistically I’m too stubborn to pay a print shop; I would’ve spent hours folding them myself by hand.

don’t mind at all! A little over $900; with sales tax it came to just about $1000 even. The way I see it, in the future even if I pay my PCBA folks to test and kit the boards, I’ll be able to do all the design and print stuff in-house (and to my own exacting standards)
(original)
I can’t say for certain that this industrial paper folder was a good investment, but the way I see it, I’m going to have to fold documentation inserts 4,000 times by the end of this campaign; I could pay a print shop to do it once OR I COULD BECOME MY OWN PRINT SHOP FOREVER!

Watch says “E”; out of curiosity I asked Siri, and she launched into a discourse about the nature of division before concluding “my answer is: No.”

i misplaced my silver Sensor Watch the other day, so instead i’ve been wearing this CA-53W, and goddamn if i didn’t just have to do some math out of the blue. Surprisingly handy, this.

new Sensor Watch website just dropped! This felt like a prerequisite for printing the documentation: rather than dump folks at a YouTube video without explanation, point them toward docs that can explain everything. (also: reorganized the docs last night) https://www.sensorwatch.net/docs/

today I packed 395 out of the 2,728 bags I’ll end up packing for the Sensor Watch fall run. Still need to label them, but I have a new piece of office equipment on the way for that. believe it or not, they still make diskette labels, and they’re just right sized for this.
